Adaptable Garden
Design isn’t always about complete makeover. Sometimes it’s about working with what’s there and adapting it to deal with changing circumstances.
So, in this garden the pond and rockery behind it made a lovely feature;

But, the planting had got a bit out of control and it was no longer really safe for the garden owner to attempt to maintain it themselves. So, we needed to try to make it safe, while keeping the essential character of the pond. I think we managed this pretty successfully, but judge for yourselves …

We deconstructed the rockery, and, reusing the same stone, made a flat pathway with steps on either side. We were able to retain the conifer and the pathway will be softened with planting in the bed behind. The main thing is that the feature is retained, but in a form where it can be easily maintained and so remain an enhancement rather than an irritant in the garden.
