Putting on the Style
We were commissioned by a very stylish and design conscious couple to revamp their garden, at the same time as they were having an extension to their kitchen.
It is a modern house …
… which had a conventional garden, largely laid to lawn, with a pond in the middle and dense planting around the fences;

And spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.
The problems with it were that it wasn’t making the most of that view, the dense planting was almost screening it out. The pond was a feature they both liked, but it was in probably the most inconvenient place it could have been, bang in the middle of the lawn. They loved plants but having them squashed up against the boundaries wasn’t really showing them off to their best advantage, and the whole garden lacked definition and a sense of style, which our clients showed in abundance in the décor of the house.
It looks a little different now! The paths both define the new beds and the lawn, and lead the eye out to the view and to the new raised pond in the corner.
The fence at the back has been lowered, and has a see through trellis panel so that it no longer acts as a barrier to that fabulous view.
The landscaping has been done to a very high standard so that the edges are crisp and the travertine paving gives the garden a stylish Italianate and very contemporary feel;
And the plants are now very much in the garden, rather than pressed around the edges, and can become features in their own right. Now the garden has as much style as the house, and its owners.
